The Flaming Star Nebula is both a reflection and emission nebula. The reflection part (blue in this image) surrounds the hot blue star AE Aurigae - or "Flaming Star". This beautiful area of nebulosity is located in the northern constellation of Auriga. Its distance from earth is estimated to be around 1500 light years.
